LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game is one more title in a long line of successful, action-packed games released by the LEGO franchise. Released in 2011, the game follows Jack Sparrow and his ragtag group of friends as they sail the high seas seeking adventure and treasure. The video game traces the plots of the four Pirates of the Caribbean movies and features many of the LEGO game qualities that have become staples of the hit LEGO series.

Listed below are some of the pros and cons of LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean.

Pros

  • LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean has more than 20 levels. This makes for a satisfyingly long video game.
  • The game has a story mode that can be played as a single player or with two players. The two-player co-op mode allows two users to switch through multiple characters and to cooperate to complete missions.
  • LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean also features a “Freeplay” mode in which players can roam through the different levels, breaking and building items, without any care about completing a mission.
  • The game is full of humorous cut scenes, a feature that has become an essential part of all LEGO games.
  • LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean has over 70 characters, and all have traits and abilities based off the movies. Players will need to make decisions as to which character is best to achieve each task.
  • The game is one of the more colorful games in the LEGO collection. The color palette of the game gives it a uniquely tropical feel.
  • Players have the ability to find bonuses, unlocking secret characters and other special extras.
  • LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean features multiple puzzles that are required to be solved before completing a level. These puzzles are both challenging and satisfying to solve.

Cons

  • The humor in the game is aimed at younger ages. Some may find this type of humor childish.
  • Some have complained that graphics can suffer depending on the level of graphics card or processor users have.
  • Occasionally, people have complained that the game is difficult to install. This seems to be a rare problem.
  • Those who have played other LEGO games may feel that LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean is just more of the same. The fight styles and puzzles are similar to other games in the LEGO series.

Overall, LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean is another solid title in the highly successful LEGO franchise. The videogame does a good job following the plotlines of the movies while also adding in some surprises. While there may be a few drawbacks to the game, as a whole, it provides an entertaining and family-fun experience. LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean is definitely worth considering for anyone who is a fan of the movies, a fan of the LEGO franchise or both.
